In Orvieto, with its impossible spaces, the restricting boundaries of its walls, its mine of history, a new hotel becomes something of a victory for a city of art.

Visiting Terni
The ancient Roman municipium of Interamna, Terni is a provincial capital of Umbria which extends south of the region, a short distance from the regional boundary with Latium. The city, which was almost fully destroyed during World War II, is characterized by modern architectures but still retains fascinating ancient buildings and palaces. An important industrial town in central Italy, Terni is a traditional holiday destination for business travellers from all over the world.
The city gathers a remarkably wide array of accommodation options which are able to suit even visitors' most demanding requirements, such as comfortable 3-star guesthouses and elegant 4-star hotels situated both near the old town and a short distance from the main business centres of the city. Not to be missed are budget hotels, family-run guesthouses and intimate bed and breakfasts.
The remains of the amphitheatre and the ancient city walls situated south of the city, next to the lush public gardens, bear witness to the magnificence of the Roman period, even if the city achieved utmost splendour during the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the Duomo, which underwent extensive restoration works in the seventeenth century but still cherishes a Romanesque entrance gate dating back to the XII century and a XIV-century Gothic door. The impressive medieval Palazzo Mazzancolli, which is the current seat of the State Archives, is situated just in the heart of Via Cavour, the ancient Roman cardo which culminates in the central Piazza della Repubblica , which in turn leads to the city's major arterial route, Via Cornelio Tacito.
The ancient Church of St. Salvatore attracts large numbers of visitors. One of the oldest monuments in the city, it has a cylindrical body, the presbytery, which is surrounded by small arches and dominated by a cylindrical dome, a rectangular transept, which is made up of a double-span nave, and a charming apse. The ancient presbytery seems to date back to the period comprised between the IV and XI century and was built over a pre-existing Roman building. The remaining part of the church belongs to a later period, such as the beautiful Manessi Chapel, which is embellished by outstanding fourteenth-century frescos.
Not to be missed is the Gothic Church of St. Francesco, which was built in 1265 and subsequently enlarged and provided with a fifteenth-century bell tower.
Walking down the streets of the city centre, which are flanked by more recent squares and buildings, it is still possible to admire ancient sacred buildings, such as the churches of St. Pietro and St. Lorenzo, and civic palaces, such as the impressive Palazzo Spada, which commands Piazza Europa, Palazzo Fabrizi, Palazzo Gazzoli and Palazzo Sciamanna.
Not to be missed are Terni's interesting museums, such as “O. Metelli" Municipal Art Gallery, “A. De Felice” Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the Palaeontological Museum.
Few kilometres far from the city centre is the Basilica of St. Valentino, which cherishes the mortal remains of the saint, who is said to be the patron saint of lovers.
Those looking for a closer touch with nature can visit the nearby spectacular Marmore Waterfalls, which are easily accessible from the city centre and stand out as one of the most appreciated highlights of the region.
