Via Scarpatetti, an ancient street peppered with charming staircases and stone houses, leads to Castel Masegra, a fortified tower which was realized in the year 1000 and subsequently turned into an elegant aristocratic residence. It now hosts the Historic Museum Castello Masegra, which gathers three rooms dedicated to the Grisons, who governed Valtellina for many centuries.
The central Palazzo Sassi hosts the Museum of History and Art of Valtellina, which contains an interesting collection gathering archaeological finds, memorabilia, historic furniture, weapons and precious works of art realized between the XIV and the XVIII century.
The elegant Via Dante, which is flanked by the stream Mallero, is the ideal place to go for  pleasant walks across traditional workshops selling handmade carpets and wrought iron and typical restaurants serving local pizzoccheri (a type of tagliatelle, a flat ribbon pasta made with buckwheat flour and wheat flour) and polenta taragna (maize porridge). Not to be missed are small groceries and wineshops selling bresaola (dried salt beef), honey, marmalade, Casera cheese and the fine wines from Valtellina: Sforzato, Valtellina, Sassella, Grumato and Inferno.
A short distance from the old town is the beautiful sanctuary of Madonna della Sassella. Situated just in the heart of a green valley, this XV-century church contains precious frescos which were realized in the 16th-century.
