Situated in the province of Ragusa, Pozzallo is a small centre overlooking the south-eastern coast of Sicily on one side and Modica's hill  on the other. The strategic position of Pozzallo's harbour, which has been exploited since the XIV-century, is marked by the impressive Cabrera Tower, a defensive bulwark which was commissioned in the XV-century by Count Giovanni Bernardo Cabrera and which is now the symbol of the city. Since then, Pozzallo's urban settlement has developed along the coast, from Punta Raganzino up to the charming resort of Pozzallo-Marza. Today, its harbour is one of the most important ones in Sicily, and deals with both trade activities, which are regularly carried out with the nearby North-African coast, and tourism, since daily tourist motorships connect it with Catania and Malta.
In front of Cabrera Tower, situated on the top of an impressive rock overlooking the sea, is the Church of St. Maria di Portosalvo, which was built in 1746 and subsequently renovated during the last century. It still cherishes an original stone font, while the beautiful high altar and its sumptuous plaster basreliefs date back to 1858. Behind the church is Pozzallo's oldest area, the Vicci Quarter, which is dotted with fascinating narrow streets and low houses. Further east are the so-called Black Stones sea front and Scaro district, the latter hosting Villa Tedeschi, an enchanting aristocratic residence which is now the seat of absorbing summer theatrical representations.
Heading west along the sea front which leads to Zabatana, tourists will have the opportunity to reach Piazza delle Rimembranze, an elegant square surrounded by charming Art-nouveau stately homes. Via Vittorio Veneto, the city's major arterial route, leads to Villa Comunale and Palazzo di Città. Once along the coast again, head to Raganzino Sea Front. Raganzino is the most crowded and well-groomed beach in Pozzallo, and often stages open-air shows, concerts and events.
