Monza, a new provincial capital of Lombardy together with a wide portion of Brianza's territory, is an ancient city of Celtic origin, as evidenced by the precious finds and remains which have recently been unearthed here and which are now cherished by the city's Civic Museums. The city centre is crossed by the river Lambro from north to south. Along its course, on the northern edge of the city, is the famous Park of Monza, a lush green area which gathers important monuments and Monza's National Circuit, a famous track which regularly hosts internationally renowned racing events. Apart from the circuit, Monza's wide pedestrian precinct is also scattered with outstanding monuments and precious historical evidences which make it an appreciated holiday destination.

The adjoining Piazza del Duomo is commanded by the impressive church dedicated to St. John the Baptist, which was erected between the sixteenth and the seventeenth century over the ruins of a pre-existing Lombard Basilica decorated with impressive walls, slabs and inscriptions. Its monumental interior cherishes the Chapel of Theodolinda, which is decorated with late-Gothic frescos depicting the Lombard Queen who commissioned the building of the first cathedral, and still cherishes Theodolinda's mortal remains and the small Iron Crown. An impressive eighteenth-century cloister leads to Serpero Museum, the seat of the precious and ancient collection of the Treasure of the Duomo.
Once past the Park, tourists will reach Villa Reale, a complex of Neoclassical buildings which once belonged to the summer residence of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria. The tour of the inner rooms gives guests the possibility to visit the elegant flats of the noble floor, the Court Theatre and the Royal Chapel. The gardens of Villa Reale lead just in the heart of Monza's Park. Situated on the edge of the city, the park is crossed by plenty of charming footpaths and is often the venue for important shows and sporting events. Absorbing concerts, shows, festivals and art reviews are regularly held outdoor in summer and inside the Court Theatre of Villa Reale in winter. The challenging races held at Monza's National Circuit are the city's major pride. It has hosted the Italian Grand Prix of Formula One since 1922, which has regularly been held here in September, and is also the venue for Superbike Grand Prix in May and Monza Rally Show in November.
