Overlooking the eastern side of the Gulf of La Spezia, Lerici is one of the most appreciated seaside resorts in Liguria. Its beautiful village is dominated by a high promontory topped by the fourteenth-century Castle built by the Pisani family in 1241, the current seat of the Geopaleontological Museum. The bulwarks of the castle offer breathtaking views over the underlying landscape, while the inner rooms offer precious insights into prehistory, since they gather fossils and dinosaurs' remains  dating back to 220 million years ago.

The village's most representative landmarks are the Tower of San Rocco, which was erected in the Roman Age and was subsequently turned into a bell tower in the XVI century, and the beautiful Church of St. Francesco. A short distance from the city's old town are small and charming centres, such as San Terenzo, an ancient village dominated by an impressive medieval Castle which falls sheer to the sea,  and Tellaro, a lovely eastern fishing village dominated by the sixteenth-century Church of St. Giorgio, which gazes across the sea from on high.
Lerici gives tourists the possibility to explore charming footpaths or go for exciting boat excursions. Not to be missed are La Cala, situated halfway between Tellaro and Lerici, whose shallows host the wreckage of a Roman ship, and Venere Azzurra, a compelling beach situated halfway between San Terenzo and Lerici which attracts large numbers of young people both during the day and at night, when amazing beach parties are organized by the nearby bathing establishments.
