Teramo, the northernmost provincial capital of Abruzzo, is a thriving town situated just in the heart of  Val Tordino, on the slopes of Gran Sasso, and is surrounded by fertile hilly landscapes punctuated with ancient vines and olive groves. The old town is situated halfway between the river Tordino and the stream Vezzola. It is divided into two distinct areas: the lower one cherishes Teramo's original core, whose narrow streets are scattered with medieval monuments and Roman finds, while the higher one is characterized by a regular and modern town layout.

The city's charming districts boast a remarkably wide array of accommodation options. During summer, when Teramo is home to important artistic festivals, music shows and challenging sporting events, both 3-star guesthouses and 4-star hotels situated in the old town propose the lovers of cultural holidays affordable all-inclusive packages. The urban area is dominated by the city's main building, the Cathedral of St. Maria Assunta and St. Berardo, which was realized in the XII century and subsequently enlarged in the XIV century.  It is situated just in the heart of Teramo's major gathering place, Piazza Martiri della Libertà, which is commanded by sumptuous hiistorical buiildings, such as the Bishop's Palace, Seminary and Palazzo Costantini.
Behind the Cathedral are the remains of the Roman Theatre and the Roman Amphitheatre, which date back to the I and II century AD respectively, while the Church of St. Getulio, an ancient place of worship and the only architectural artwork dating back to the early Middle Ages, was built over the remains of an ancient Roman temple. Not to be missed is the Sanctuary of Madonna delle Grazie, which was built outside the city walls in 1153 and subsequently frescoed by Cesare Mariani in the late ‘800. In front of the Basilica is a lush park dedicated to singer-songwriter from Teramo Ivan Graziani, which is also home to an important archaeological site.
On the opposite side, a short distance from the welcoming Piazza Garibaldi, is the nineteenth-century Castle of Monica, which was realized by Gennaro Della Monica and is situated on the top of the small promontory of San Venanzio. Beyond the walls of Piazza Garibaldi are the lush gardens of the Municipal Villa, the Civic Museum of Art and Teramo's Picture Gallery, the latter cherishing inestimable works of art.
