Via XX Settembre leads to the Duomo, which has a rather leaden Lombard-Romanesque exterior and a solemn interior featuring a nave and two aisles. The frescos of the dome, which depict sibyls and prophets, were realized by Guercino in the XVII century.
Among the most ancient sacred buildings of the city are the Romanesque churches of St. Antonino and St. Savino, which both contain XII-century mosaics.
The Renaissance Piazza Cittadella is dominated by the monumental Palazzo Farnese, the current seat of the Civic Museum and its vast collection of ancient, medieval and modern art. A short distance from it is the Renaissance Church of St. Sisto.  
Via della Campagna leads to the Church of Madonna di Campagna, one of the most interesting examples of Renaissance architecture. Its richly decorated interior cherishes precious frescos by Pordenone.
