Hotels Ogliastra, Guesthouses Ogliastra and Residences Ogliastra
Visiting Ogliastra
The province of Ogliastra, situated in the central eastern part of Sardinia, is named after a peculiar administrative division of the region, which was subdivided into fifteen different municipalities in 1807. The current capitals of Ogliastra are Tortolì and Lanusei, the former overlooking the Tyrrhenian Coast and provided with an important port and airport, and the latter situated just in the heart of the Sardinian hinterland and scattered with thick woods and breathtaking views over the surrounding coastline and mountains.
An appreciated destination for the lovers of seaside holidays and those looking for unspoilt landscapes and naturalistic excursions, Ogliastra boasts a remarkably wide array of accommodation options which are able to suit even tourists' most demanding requirements. Both 3-star guesthouses and luxury 4-star hotels are hosted inside modern buildings and offer guests utmost comfort and high-quality services and facilities. Tortolì gathers cheap inns, budget hotels and luxury accommodation facilities provided with swimming pool, while Lanusei hosts charming guesthouses situated in the old town and fascinating holiday farms surrounded by lush natural landscapes.
Large numbers of tourists are attracted by the beaches of granite sand of Lido di Orrì, which are situated a short distance from interesting archaeological sites gathering impressive menhirs, tombs and nuraghic complexes. Those reaching Tortolì by sea will have the opportunity to admire its enchanting coastline, which is peppered with wide expanses of silver sand, intimate coves and impressive cliffs of red porphyry. Not to be missed is the open-air Museum of Contemporary Art, which cherishes precious sculptures and works of art by acclaimed national and international artists. The tourist harbour of Tortolì is situated in the nearby hamlet of Arbatax. Its outstanding sea front is dominated by the imposing Saracen tower and the fascinating promontory of Capo Bellavista.
The hinterland cherishes the picturesque village of Lanusei, which is situated just in the heart of a wide natural amphitheatre nestling on the slopes of the Gennargentu mountains. Tourists will have the possibility to take part in interesting excursions to the nearby Mount Tricoli, Mount Armidda and its Astronomical Observatory, which is open to the general public, and Mount Selene. Selene Forest hosts an important Archaeological Park gathering the remains of an ancient nuraghic village and well-preserved funerary monuments. A short distance from Lanusei is Lago Alto del Flumendosa, an artificial basin which was created along the deviation of the river Flumendosa and is surrounded by lush woods and almost unspoilt natural settings.
