Bibbiena, and the high Clock Tower, which gazes across the city from on high.
Piazza della Libertà is situated just upon the intersection of the most important avenues of the city centre, such as Corso Matteotti, which is dominated by sumptuous 16th-century palaces, Corso della Repubblica, which in turn leads to Piazza Vittorio Veneto and its Municipal Museums, Civic Picture Gallery, Municipal Library and the Baroque Church of St. Giovanni, and Via Don Minzoni, which leads to the 18th-century  Duomo. Next to the Duomo is the small 18th-century Basilica of Madonna della Misericordia, whose enchanting interior was designed by Vanvitelli.
A short distance from it, just in front of Piazza Mazzini, is the famous Sphaeristerium, a huge Neoclassical arena erected as a stadium for a form of handball which is now the seat of important cultural, artistic and sporting events, thanks to its big stalls which are able to host up to 7.000 spectators. Not to be missed are the acclaimed music festivals and reviews which are held here all year round.
