Latina is one of the main provinces of Latium. It is one of the youngest cities in Italy, since it was founded in 1932 following the incredible land reclamation of the Pontine Marshes carried out during the Fascism. The city was named Littoria during a solemn ceremony attended by the Duce himself.

The city offers a wide range of comfortable 3- and 4-star hotels which are situated along the main streets and in the old town, as well as charming guesthouses situated a short distance from the centre where it is possible to spend pleasant holidays at reasonable prices. The hotels overlooking the sea develop in the most modern districts of the city.

A large portion of the territory of Latina, which before the reclamation was impassable although rich in rare species of animals and plants, was included in the protected areas of Circeo National Park. The park is the largest natural forest in Italy and can be visited both on foot and by bike.
The original town layout of Littoria, a perfect octagon developing around the two centres of Piazza del Popolo and Piazza della Libertà, underwent many modifications and so did its name, which finally turned into Latina in the post-war period. The rationalist architecture by Oriolo Frezzotti underwent substantial changes due to the sudden urban and economic expansion the city experienced along the Tyrrhenian Coast.
Latina makes the ideal base for experiencing beautiful excursions along the coast and visiting outstanding natural beauties, such as the Pontine Islands, the most famous being Ponza and Ventotene.
