Frosinone, which was founded on the hill overlooking the Sacco valley and then extended up to the underlying plain, is a very old resort which has been settled since the Palaeolithic. Originary bearing the name of Frusna, it later turned into the Latin Frùsino and was one of the main settlements of the Hernici and Voscian peoples, as evidenced by the necropoles dating back to the fifth and sixth centuries BC which were discovered in the upper part of the city.
