Overlooking the picturesque trulli which dominate the Itria valley, Cisternino is a small municipality situated in the province of Brindisi, which is idylically set in a strategic position halfway between Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. The ancient village offers a marvellous view over whitewashed houses, courtyards, balconies and narrow paved streets surrounded by fertile valleys.

Walking down the paved old town, it is possible to reach the church of St. Nicola. Also known as Chiesa Madre, its interior cherishes sculptures and decorations of great value by Stefano da Putignano; the same square also contains the impressive Norman-Swabian Tower. Not to be missed are the Bishop's Palace, the Renaissance facade of Palazzo del Governatore and the other aristocratic residences situated in the old town.
The small workshops of Cisternino manufacture traditional wood and stone artworks. Not to be missed are wineshops, restaurants and inns serving tasty local staples, such as cacioricotta and locally-produced wines, oils and salamis.
