Castro, situated in the province of Lecce, is a charming fishing village which is thought to be located on the border between the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea. According to such a belief, the small municipality would overlook both seas regardless of its small extension (4 square kilometres).

Dominated by Mount Mattia, a small promontory where the original settlement was founded, Castro's ancient old town still retains its original layout. Accommodation facilities here are situated along the coast, in the so-called Castro Marina area, which gathers 4-star hotels, 3-star guesthouses and clusters of small inns and cheap guesthouses.

Hotels in Castro Marina offer guided boat excursions to the caves, such as Zinzulusa, which is famous for the beautiful seascape tourists can admire when approaching its karstic mouth, and Romanelli, which cherishes outstanding prehistoric graffiti. The rocky coastline is interspersed with small and intimate coves which are easily accessible by car.
Narrow streets and  medieval houses characterize the city centre, which is wholly surrounded by sixteenth-century walls. This area gathers plenty of hotels which are hosted inside ancient residences. Not to be missed are the Castle, the Romanesque Cathedral of the Annunciation and the former Bishop's Palace.
