The new province of Carbonia-Iglesias, which is situated on the south-eastern edge of Sardinia, is the smallest provincial capital of the region. Its territory also comprises the two islands of San Pietro and Sant’Antioco, which are connected with Sardinia through a long bridge and an artifical isthmus. Iglesias's city centre also hosts the Minerary Museum, which displays one of the largest national collections of minerals and rocks, and the Museum of Minerary Art, the latter gathering pictures, materials and tools which remind of the important minerary activities of the province.
