Visiting Camaiore
Lido di Camaiore, a popular seaside resort overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, is among the most appreciated tourist destinations in the Versilia Coast thanks to its outstanding landscapes and natural sceneries. The coastline of Lido di Camaiore, which extends from Viareggio up to Marina di
Pietrasanta, boasts enchanting beaches of white and fine sand. Behind the sea are the plain of Capezzano, famous for the wide range of flowers and plants it hosts, the fertile hills of Seimiglia and the high mountaintops of the Apuan Alps.
Lido di Camaiore boasts both modern accommodation facilities and comfortable guesthouses. 3-star hotels are designed to host young families looking for relaxing seaside holidays and welcoming, clean and well-equipped beaches. It is possible to book bedrooms provided with panoramic terraces overlooking the sea front in 4-star hotels, suites in hotels provided with swimming pool or elegant villas surrounded by the lush pinewood forest. There are also bed & breakfasts or cheap hotels situated near the sea to spend relaxing holidays at reasonable prices.
The beautiful 4-kilometre-long sandy coastline is easily accessible through the panoramic tree-lined promenade of the sea front, where the main clubs, fish restaurants and summer residences overlooking the tops of the Apuan Alps are situated. The cycle path of Viale Europa overlooks the sea, while villas and elegant residences are surrounded by gardens and pinewood forests.
Families with children flocking to Lido di Camaiore can enjoy excellent entertainment on the beach and a big funfair which is open all summer long.
Lido di Camaiore is situated a short distance from some charming centres of the hinterland, which are highly appreciated by the lovers of nature, art and history. The Apuan Alps and the surrounding hills abounds in footpaths and itineraries which extend across ancient villages and charming valleys crossed by small streams.
The lovers of history and art can visit the nearby Tuscan artistic cities and the Benedectine Abbey of St. Pietro. Built between the VIII and the XIII century, this Romanesque abbey with a nave and two aisles boasts an outstanding fourteenth-century door and ancient walls dating back to the age the first monastery was erected.
Not to be missed is the ancient village of Gombitelli in the neighbourhoods of Lucca, rich in charming houses and ancient iron-foundries where a water-driven hammer is still employed to manufacture wrought iron. The small village of Pieve, situated a short distance from Lucca, is worthy of mention due to its famous Parish Church of Camaiore. The Romanesque building named after SS.Giovanni and Stefano cherishes an ancient font got from a Roman sarcophagus dating back to the III century A.D.
