Vinci, a small municipality of the province of Florence that develops north of Empoli, extends just in the heart of the glorious countryside of Valdarno Inferiore. Museo Leonardiano, that was the first museum to be inaugurated in Vinci to celebrate Leonardo, cherishes precious reproductions of some great inventions by the brilliant scientist: Flying machines, looms, watches, war devices, industrial machinery, hydraulic mechanisms and even a modern bicycle. Museo Ideale Leonardo da Vinci, that develops along a fascinating underground gallery and inside the cellars of the Castle, illustrates the most important phases of the life of this extraordinary artist, scientist, traveller, architect, engineer, doctor and set designer. The exhibition is subdivided into128 theme sections, and gathers important manuscripts, paintings, sketches and outstanding reproductions of brilliant inventions.
Leonardo's native house can be visited in the lovely hamlet of Archiano di Vinci. Further attractions worthy of mention are the Parish Church of St. Croce, where Leonardo was christened in 1452, and the Romanesque Parish Church of St. John the Baptist in Sant’Ansano.
