The Lombard municipality of Verdellino is situated 13 kilometres far from Bergamo's city centre, just in the heart of the local central plain. Its name derives from the Latin adjective viridis meaning green, since this picturesque town has been surrounded by large meadows since the Roman Age and is still encircled by lush natural settings.

Verdellino's major attraction is the Sanctuary of Madonna dell’Olmo, a Romanesque building which has attracted large numbers of visitors, researchers and believers for many centuries. The Sanctuary of  Madonna dell’Olmo, which is situated a short distance from Verdellino's old town, is a fascinating XI-century building which was largely built of local stone and rocks. It was almost fully remodelled in the XVI century, but the apses and some inner frescoes belong to the original structue. Verdellino's old town is dominated by another important sacred building, the church of St. Ambrogio, which boasts a beautiful Baroque portal and some precious works of art of great value.
