One of the city's most prestigious religious buildings is the X-XI-century Church of St. Lorenzo, that rises in the small hamlet of Serravalle Ceno. This ancient parish church, that was totally rebuilt in the XIV century, boasts a semi-circular apse and some beautiful side chapels. The complex also includes an interesting Romanesque octagonal-shaped Baptistry. Regarded to be one of the most ancient Christian monuments in the province of Parma (VIII-IX century), it is illuminated by four single-lancet windows and covered with sandstone slabs.
Walking down the narrow streets of the medieval village of Viazzano, that extends three kilometres far from Varano, visitors will have the possibility to admire the city's typical tower houses. The most beautiful ones are Casa Grossardi, that is embellished by a splendid arched portico, and Casa Venturini, that is flanked by a majestic sixteenth-century building whose gable is surmounted by an elegant tympan.
One of the city's major tourist attractions is “Riccardo Paletti” Circuit. Established in 1969, it hosts the important stages of the Italian Speed Championship.
