Visiting Valtournenche
Valtournenche is a small municipality situated in a privileged panoramic position overlooking the homonymous valley, which extends along the Swiss border on the slopes of the impressive Mount Cervino. Both the city itself and the small hamlets of the municipal territory are distributed along a steep slope. The charming hamlet of Breuil-Cervinia is one of the most appreciated villages of the whole valley, and attracts large numbers of sportsmen and the lovers of open-air activities.
Valtournenche gathers a remarkably wide array of hotels, which are distributed across the whole municipal territory. The old town is dotted with charming guesthouses, which welcome guests with utmost hospitality both in summer and in winter. Intimate shelters and residences concentrate in the area which surrounds Breuil-Cervinia, while charming holiday farms and small family-run inns are idyllically set just in the heart of the valley.
A thick network of ski-lift facilities and a large ski district gathering plenty of different slopes make Valtournenche, Breuil-Cervinia and Zermatt privileged holiday destinations for thousands of sportsmen and skiers. The tourist offer is complemented by multipurpose sports centres, such as the one gathering swimming pool, indoor rock climbing gym and tennis court, and further targeted facilities. The modern congress centre, which is situated next to the city's multipurpose centre, attracts large numbers of business travellers flocking to the surrounding area.
Those interested in undertaking pleasant excursions across the lush landscapes of the valley will have the opportunity to enjoy a thick network of footpaths and cycling itineraries, while the lovers of Alpine skiing will have the opportunity to explore exciting routes provided with fixed ropes and iron steps.
Apart from amazing sports activities, tourists flocking to Valtournenche will have the opportunity to participate in absorbing cultural activities and events. The beautiful building of Rascard d’Entréves, the city's most representative landmark which is situated next to the Town Hall, hosts interesting exhibitions and cultural events; in July, the city hosts Cervino Cinemountain film festival, an internationally renowned event which attracts large numbers of film experts and enthusiasts. Twice a year, the city organizes the traditional antiques market of Valle d'Aosta, while in September it is home to the so-called "Désarpa à Votornentse" festival, which celebrates transhumance and the breeders who have lived in these mountains for many centuries.
