Treia, a small municipality of the province of Macerata, rises on the top of a 342-metre-high sandstone hill, and gives visitors the possibility to enjoy breathtaking views over the enchanting landscapes which surround the ancient village. Treia's major gathering place is its sumptuous Piazza delle Repubblica, which is dominated by the impressive Cathedral of St. Annunziata. This church, which was designed by Andrea Vici and built between 1782 and 1814, is one of the most important sacred buildings of the whole region.
The southern edge of the old town is commanded by the high Onglavina Tower, a XIII-century defensive bulwark which bears witness to the fact the whole surrounding territory was once occupied by an impressive fortified structure.
Treia's Civic Archeaological Museum cherishes precious remains, sculptures, architectural patterns and engravings which date back to the ancient Roman Trea, which was dedicated to the goddess Trea-Jana and was subsequently sacked and destroyed by the Goths. Not to be missed is the church of St. Chiara, which is said to host the original statue of the Virgin which was once venerated in Loreto.
The lovers of nature will have the possibility to go for pleasant walks across thick woods and enchanting landscapes. Walking along fascinating footpaths, visitors will have the possibility to reach impressive ruins, such as Roccaccia,  ancient farms dating back to at least one century ago, and places of spiritual retreat, such as the Retreat of St. Sperandia.
