The small village of Torrenova is situated in the province of Messina. Idyllically set along the enchanting coastline of the Tyrrhenian Sea, it boasts breathtaking views over the north eastern Aeolian Islands. The town, which became an indipendent municipality in 1984, was once part of the nearby municipality of San Marco d’Alunzio.

Like every other Sicilian resort, Torrenova is dominated by impressive bulwarks. The small municipality, which was originally dominated by five imposing towers, still retains the remains of three of them. Torre Cuffari, a simple structure featuring quadrangular plan, still retains its ancient podium and north eastern edge. The outer structure of Torre di Marco or Favara still retains its original characteristics, and boasts impressive stone walls and a monumental entrance gate which is situated norther than in the traditional towers. Torre Gatto or Nova, which dates back to the late sixteenth century, boasts a peculiar style which makes it one of the city's principal attractions. 
The lovers of history and art won't miss the opportunity to visit the so-called Fondaco, an impressive castle which dominates Contrada Pietra di Roma and is situated next to an imposing Byzantine fortress and an ancient aqueduct. Originally built to suit defensive purposes, it was later used as a post office.
San Pietro di Deca, which is locally known as “U Cunvintazzu”, is an impressive building featuring octagonal plan. A coin found inside its walls contributed to it being classified as a IX-century structure. Not to be missed is the Church of St. Maria, which was founded in the late 1600 and still cherishes a wonderful chalky bas-relief depicting Madonna delle Grazie.
