Visiting Tavullia
Tavullia is a thriving resort of the province of Pesaro-Urbino. Its territory is crossed by the river Foglia and the stream Tavollo, and it is covered with lush landscapes and a glorious countryside. Its city centre, which was founded in the Middle Ages, is scattered with plenty of interesting historical finds and artistic evidences which are able to attract large numbers of cultural tourists.
The city centre gathers a remarkably wide array of accommodation options, such as comfortable hotels guest houses which belong to diferent price categories. Tavullia's charming farm houses and intimate bed and breakfasts give guests the possibility to enjoy sweeping views over the surrounding area.
Tavullia's most representative building is the eighteenth-century church, which rises next to the city walls. In July, the area which develops around the church is home to the popular summer festival, which is livened up by picturesque stalls selling genuine local staples and curious handicrafts.
Not to be missed is the famous Tomba Castle, which was repeatedly sacked during the years of fierce fighting between the Malatesta Lords and the Montefeltro Family. From the top of the castle it is possible to admire both the tower and the city walls, which have recently been totally reconstructed. Tavullia gathers plenty of beautiful churches: the church of St. Lawrence Marty, which cherishes the mortal remains of St. Pio, the church of St. Donato in Belvedere Folignese, the church of Madonna del Monte, which rises on the top of Montepeloso Hill and contains a precious fourteenth-century engraving, and the church of St. Marino, which belongs to private owners.
The tiny hamlet of Montechiaro hosts the so-called QUOTA 204 monument, which was commissioned by local authorities to celebrate those who died during World War II.
The lovers of sport and open-air activities will have the possibility to explore plenty of fascinating footpaths, which give them the possibility to enjoy wonderful views over both the sea and the mountains. One of the privileged natural settings of the surrounding area is the territory which surrounds Molinacci hills. In spring, its lush green meadows are punctuated with thousands of jasmines, violets, primroses, hawthorn trees and rare wild orchids, which do not normally grow at a low altitude. The lovers of birdwatching will have the possibility to admire the flight of the common kestrel and the buzzard.
