Taviano, a lovely centre of the province of Lecce, develops along the southern part of the Salentine Peninsula, and extends south of the Gulf of Gallipoli. Known as the “City of Flowers”, it is one of the most important flower-growing centres of Salento, and also boasts an appreciated seaside resort overlooking the Ionian Coast, the popular hamlet of Marina di Mancaversa.

The old town is commanded by the Church of St. Martino di Tours, the city's patron saint. The building, that was erected between the XV and the XVII century, has a sober facade divided by two pilasters and surmounted by a beautiful Baroque moulding. Its interior is embellished by prestigious XVII-century paintings and by seven sumptuously sculpted stone altars. Taviano's oldest district is characterized by the so-called Case a Corte, that feature peculiar architectural elements, such as the so-called  “mignani” balconies. It is dominated by one of the city's most beautiful churches, the Church of St. Lucia. The small inner chapel, that was erected in 1630, boasts a splendid Baroque portal and window, and is embellished by wonderful carparo stone decorations.
Not to be missed is the fascinating Village of Castelforte, that develops on the top of a sweet hill that rises 4 kilometres far from Taviano. Built in 1946, it gathers a fairy-tale Gothic architectural complex embellished by spires, niches and original tufa stone decorations.
