The lovely hamlet of Borghetto is home to the Franciscan monastery of St. Lucia al Borghetto, an outstanding medieval structure of great value. Its main church was built according to the traditional canons of the Gothic style, and boasts a single nave, lancet windows and ogival arches. Its facade was remodelled according to the neo-Gothic style in the twentieth century, while its interior still cherishes precious fourteenth-century frescoes by Legnaiuoli, a splendid fifteenth-century wooden crucifix and a prestigious painting by Neri di Bicci, that ornates the high altar.
Other churches worthy of mention in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa are the XV-century Church of St. Maria del Carmine in the lovely hamlet of Morrocco and the Romanesque Parish Church of St. Pietro in Bossolo, whose presbytery is home to an interesting Museum of sacred art, that contains precious artworks dating back to the period comprised betwen the XIV and the XVIII century.
Tavarnelle Val di Pesa has been home to the famous “Fatto in Chianti” show room since 2005. This permanent exhibition gathering artisan handicrafts and tasty local staples gives visitors the possibility to take part in interesting educational tours, tasting sessions and demonstrations. Tavarnelle Val di Pesa is situated few kilometres far from the famous Badia a Passignano, an ancient monastery that is totally surrounded by fortified walls and high defensive towers. It cherishes precious artworks by Passignano and Ghirlandaio, and also contains the mortal remains of San Giovanni Gualberto, the founder of Vallombrosano Order who died here in 1073.
