Supersano, a lovely resort of the province of Lecce, develops just in the heart of a lush territory that extends halfway between the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Coast. Supersano's old town is dominated by the beautiful Church of St. Michael the Archangel, the city's patron saint.  The interior of this Latin cross building cherishes a precious Romanesque font. Not to be missed is Coelimanna Crypt, that was dug into the tufa rock of Serra di Supersano. The Byzantine non-hypogean underground chapel is flanked by the Sanctuary of Madonna di Coelimanna, that was erected in 1746.
Supersano Castle, that was built in 1300 and then repeatedly remodelled over the course of the centuries, still retains the original layout of only one out of the four towers that were erected in the XV century. The castle, that has recently been turned into an elegant stately home, boasts a long eighteenth-century balcony and some beautiful windows dating back to the sixteenth century.
