Among the city's most representative sacred buildings are the parish church of St. John the Baptist and St. Pietro, which cherishes inestimable works of art, and the beautiful Sanctuary of Madonna dei Campi, which is situated at the very edge of the city. Built in the XIII century and subsequently enlarged in the XVI century, it has been a traditional pilgrimage mecca since the sixteenth century, when the Madonna is said to have appeared to the crowd of believers while praying.
