Sestri Levante, the so-called "city of two seas", develops just in the heart of the lush alluvial plain that is crossed by the stream Gromolo, and extends on the slopes of Isola's rocky promontory. Situated 52 kilometres far from Genoa, this charming coastal centre develops along the eastern side of Tigullio Gulf, and it gathers 31 hamlets.

The famous Isola promontory is dominated by the beautiful Church of St. Nicolò dell'Isola, that was erected in 1100 and then partially rebuilt in the XV century. This sumptuous Romanesque building has a nave and two aisles, and it is flanked by a quadrangular bell tower surmounted by a pyramid-shaped spire. The splendid Giacomo Matteotti square, that is situated just in the heart of the ancient medieval village, is dominated by the Basilica of St. Maria di Nazareth, that was erected in the XVII century. This huge religious building has a Neoclassical facade that is faced by sumptuous Ionian columns and a triangular tympan. Its interior cherishes precious Baroque sculptures and paintings, as well as a famous wood Pietà by Anton Maria Maragliano.
Walking down the streets of the old town, tourists will have the opportunity to admire important civic buildings, such as Palazzo Durazzo Pallavicini (1675), and plenty of XIV-century slate portals, that distribute along the so-called carruggio.
Art lovers won't miss the opportunity to visit "Marcello Rizzi" Picture Gallery, that is hosted inside the homonymous palace which was built in 1926 on the popular Baia del Silenzio beach. It contains wonderful sculptures and paintings realized by important artists from Genoa and Emilia, as well as a prestigious collection gathering typical ceramic artworks from western Liguria.  
Sestri Levante often arranges amazing events, such as the famous Barcarolata festival, that is held on Baia del Silenzio beach on the last July Sunday and is livened up by amazing boat parades, colourful lights and original Carnival costumes.
