Scala is one of the oldest municipalities of the Amalfi Coast. Situated just in front of Ravello, on the opposite side of the valley of the stream Dragone, it boasts a prestigious history and artistic heritage. Supported by four high columns decorated with Romanesque capitals, the well-lit crypt makes the whole structure look slimmer. The high altar is embellished by two wood sculptures dating back to 1260. The interior hosts the wonderful sepulchre of Marinella Rufolo, which was realized in 1332 and decorated with polychrome stuccoes. Scala is peppered with further prestigious churches and buildings, that concentrate in the nearby hamlets of San Pietro, Santa Caterina, Campidoglio, Pontone and Minuto, the latter being home to the splendid XII-century Church of Annunziata.
Scala is situated a short distance from Atrani, Amalfi, Minori, Maiori and some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.
