Savignone, a small mountain resort of the province of Genoa, develops on the slopes of the Ligurian Apennines, and it is crowned by the lush green hills that surround the upper valley of the river Scrivia. The municipal territory, that includes four hamlets and numerous smaller resorts, extends 32 kilometres north of the regional capital, and it is part of the Regional Natural Park of Antola.

The interior of this sumptuous Baroque building cherishes a precious painting depicting the Visitation of Saint Catherine of Genoa, that was realized by Giovanni Battista Carlone.        
The XIII-century Savignone Castle rises on the top of a 150-metre-high hill that commands the municipal territory. The fortress-residence is almost totally ruined, but it is still possible to admire part of its walls, that are reinforced by a semi-circular tower, the remains of the ancient manor house and the water tank dug into the puddingstone, that was once used in the case of siege.
The city's medieval bridge, that was built around the XIII century, connects the regional capital with the territories that develop along the opposite banks of the river Scrivia. It boasts a single arch and is totally made of  brick and robust pillars.
The splendid square of the church is dominated by the sumptuous facade of Palazzo Fieschi, that was commissioned by Count  Ettore Fieschi and then built between 1565 and 1569. The palace, probably a late medieval fortress that was turned into a earl's palace, now hosts one of the oldest hotels in Liguria.
In summer, the nearby hamlet of San Bartolomeo hosts the interesting Rural Indie Camp, a popular music and theatre festival that attracts large numbers of visitors every year.
