San Vito al Tagliamento, the capital of Sanvitese, has been settled since ancient times. The surrounding territory is scattered with precious archaeological and historical evidences, which have recently been unearthed just in the centre of the old town. Among these, not to be missed are the footing of the ancient city walls, which date back to 1200, and Scaramuccia, Grimana and Raimonda, three medieval towers which still retain their original aspect.

Most guest houses in San Vito al Tagliamento are encircled by the imposing walls of the old town. The city also gathers some luxury  hotels, which are situated along the major roads which connect the city with the nearby Venice. Young people will have the possibility to stay at San Vito's comfortable residences, while those interested in spending pleasant holidays here at reasonable prices will have the possibility to stop at the charming bed and breakfasts of the surrounding area.

San Vito is commanded by a high bell tower, which rises next to the city's Franciscan monastery. The bell tower was once flanked by the sanctuary of Madonna di Rosa, which was destroyed by bombing and subsequently reconstructed in 1953.
Not to be missed are the Duomo of St. Vito, Modesto and Crescenzia, which was erected in the mid eighteenth century over the remains of the ancient fifteenth-century cathedral, and Palazzo Rota, which boasts an elegant inner courtyard and is now the seat of the local Municipality.
The so-called Raimonda Tower, which was erected around 1200, houses a small archaeological museum which gathers precious Roman and Lombard finds, and interesting prehistoric and protohistoric remains of great value.
