San Donato Milanese is a small municipality of the province of Milan, the terminal of the famous Autostrada del Sole. Piazza della Pieve is dominated by the impressive Parish Church of St. Donato. This sober structure still retains the original plan of ancient basilicas. Its single nave is surmounted by three spans which mark the boundaries of as many chapels. The inner arches and vaults are sumptuously decorated, and the walls are covered with precious paintings. The altar is dominated by a prestigious picture depicting the Resurrected Christ.
One of the city's most important cultural centres is the so-called Cascina Roma, which was totally restored in 1994 and is now the seat of the local newspaper and periodical library and the Gallery of Contemporary Art.
