The ancient core of San Cesario sul Panaro develops around the  Romanesque Basilica of St. Cesario, which is one of the oldest churches in Emilia-Romagna. This sumptuous brick construction was erected in the X century over the remains of a pre-existent sacred building. Its interior cherishes a precious relic of the saint, as well as enchanting sculptured capitals, seventeenth-century paintings and the monumental tomb of Gian Galeazzo Boschetti, which was realized by Antonio Begarelli from Modena in the sixteenth century.
The noble Boschetti Family, that gave birth to the counts of San Cesario, commissioned the building of the beautiful villa which is situated just in the heart of the city centre and is now the seat of a municipal cultural centre. The park of Villa Boschetti is dominated by ancient trees and gathers rare species of local plants.
Villa Sorra is another sumptuous stately home which is situated in the lovely hamlet of Ponte Sant’Ambrogio.
