Rivisondoli is a small municipality of the province of l’Aquila which rises 1.320 metres above sea level. A renowned ski resort, it is highly appreciated for the famous slopes that lead to the top of Mount Pratello, which is part of the famous Roccaraso ski district. During summer, the enchanting footpaths of the protected areas belonging to Majella National Park attract large numbers of excursionists and mountain lovers.

Rivisondoli's charming city centre is characterized by picturesque sites, mysterious nooks and crannies and breathtaking views. The city's most representative monuments are Palazzo Baronale Sardi, whose portal and staircase, which where realized by Panfilo Mascio, date back to 1803, and the Sanctuary of St. Maria, which is situated a short distance from the old town. The church was erected in 1589 over the remains of a pre-existing sacred building. The ancient roof, which was entirely covered with pure gold, caved in in 1875, and was subsequently replaced by a barrel vault. The frescoes of the presbytery, which were realized in 1924, still retain their original fascination.
One of Rivisondoli's most famous events is its popular living crib. This fascinating representation, which has taken place every year on January 5 since 1951, stages important biblical scenes accompanied by great soundtracks. Every year, more than 20 thousand spectators attend this outstanding event which is pervaded by poetry and fascination.
