Rho is the fifth most densely populated municipality in the province of Milan. Situated north-west of the Lombard capital, it is crossed by the river Olona and the tributaries Bozzente and Lura.

One of the city's most representative historic-artistic monuments is the Sanctuary of Addolorata, which is regarded to be one of the most important Marian sanctuaries of the region. It was erected to celebrate a miracle which occurred in 1583; the project was designed by Pellegrino Tebaldi, while the facade was realized by the Neoclassical architect Leopold Pollack.
The sanctuary is flanked by the Monastery of the Oblates, which was realized by Giorgio Martinelli. The Neoclassical Basilica of St. Vittore, which rises just in the heart of the homonymous square, cherishes precious paintings and splendid windows.
Not to be missed is the Town Hall, which was built in the XX century according to the architectural canons of the nearby medieval palaces. Its interior contains precious paintings of great value, four putti and further prestigious memorabila. Other places of interest are the beautiful Fountain of the Station, which was largely built of Verona marble, and the so-called Rho's Mummy, which is hosted inside the local cemetery and is said to cherish the mortal remains of the Archbishop Leone da Perego.
The glorious surrounding countryside is peppered with sumptuous Roman villas: Villa Burba, which is encircled by a lush park, is home to a well-stocked library. Not to be missed are the fascinating industrial architectures which date back to the beginning of the century, such as Bianchi Chemicals and Citterio.
