Recanati, a small village of the province of Macerata, is known all over the world as the native town of the poet Giacomo Leopardi. The poet's native house, the so-called Palazzo Leopardi, is still inhabited by his descendants. The ground floor hosts a small library which is made up of four rooms: the so-called Room of the Manuscripts still cherishes some important original works.
Tourists won't miss the opportunity to visit Mount Tabor, the so-called hill of Infinito poem. The top of this panoramic hill is occupied by the World Centre of Poetry and Culture, which often arranges interesting conventions, seminars and cultural events. Those interested in going over the story of Leopardi won't miss the opportunity to visit the so-called Tower of Passero Solitario poem, which is situated just in the heart of the courtyard of the cloister of St. Agostino, and the elegant Palazzo Antici-Mattei, which is native house of the mother of the poet.
Recanati also gathers further sacred buildings of great historical and architectural value, such as the XII-century Church of St. Maria di Castelnuovo and the Co-Cathedral of St. Flaviano, which is embellished by a wonderful wood coffered ceiling. The city centre is also scattered with a dazzling array of libraries, archives and museums.
Not to be missed is the visit of Villa Colloredo Mels Civic Museum, which contains a rich collection which can in turn be subdivided into four sections: archaeology, medieval art, Renaissance art and a dedicated area which hosts  temporary exhibitions. The Renaissance section hosts four of the most famous artworks by the famous painter Lorenzo Lotto, who spend some years in Recanati between the first and the second decade of the sixteenth century.
