Visiting Pula

Pula, a renowned tourist resort situated in the province of Cagliari, is one of the southernmost municipalities of Sardinia. Its territory cherishes the ruins of the ancient village of Nora, the first Phoenician settlement of the region. The inestimable historical and archaeological finds cherished by the city make it a privileged holiday destination for the lovers of cultural tourism, while compelling beaches, modern tourist services and facilities and large green areas attract large numbers of holidaymakers.

The modern tourist harbour situated between the renowned beaches of Cala d’Ostia and Cala Verde gives Pula the possibility to welcome large numbers of tourists, who will have the possibility to stay at comfortable accommodation facilities which are able to suit even their most demanding requirements. Pula gathers a remarkably wide array of comfortable accomodation facilities situated a short distance from the beach, such as charming 3-star guesthouses, luxury 4-star hotels, cheap campsites and intimate inns overlooking the sea. Families with children will have the possibility to spend their holidays at small guesthouses and comfortable budget hotels. Pula's medieval old town is scattered with charming guesthouses and intimate bed and breakfasts which can be easily reached by both car and public means of transport.

Pula's municipal territory includes plenty of compelling beaches, such as the beach of Guvunteddu in Sant’Efisio. This small hamlet is dominated by the XII-century church of St. Efisio, which every year at the beginning of May hosts the picturesque procession gathering large numbers of believers dressed in period costumes who come from Cagliari on board allegorical floats. Further alluring beaches are Nora's Lagoon, which comprises a large archaeological site and an interesting aquarium, Punta d’Agumu and Foxi ‘e Sali, which are both situated along the coastal road. Santa Margherita di Pula and its lush pinewood forest and the nearby beaches of Cala d’Ostia and Cala Verde are the pivotal points of the vast coastline, since they are provided with amazing attractions and offer tourists high-quality services and facilities.
Pula's hinterland is almost fully surrounded by the lush forests of Pixina Manna and Is Cannoneris, two large unspoilt environmental oases which are dotted with golf courses, sports facilities and specialized centres dealing with excursions and guided tours.
The lovers of history and archaeology will have the opportunity to admire the outstanding masterpieces belonging to the ancient city Nora, such as the precious sarcophagi and historical finds cherished by Patroni Archaeological Museum and the Church of St. John the Baptist. Heading towards the coast in the direction of the small peninsula of Capo Pula, tourists will reach the sixteenth-century tower of Coltellazzo, which still retains precious remains belonging to the ancient city of Nora, which was ruled by both Phoenicians, Punic peoples and Romans before disappearing in the VIII century. Among the best-preserved ruins are a Punic temple dedicated to Tanit, four thermal complexes which are still covered with mosaic floors dating back to different ages, the necropolis and the Roman theatre, which is now the venue for interesting cultural reviews.
