Visiting Portici

Portici is one of the most famous municipalities of the province of Naples. Situated a short distance from the Gulf of Naples, Ercolano, Torre del Greco and Castellammare di Stabia, Portici nestles on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. This densely-populated city has an important sea port, and is provided with excellent connections with Naples' major attractions and highlights. Portici's most representative artistic landmark is a series of eighteenth-century villas and palaces which were built according to the canons of the so-called Miglio D’Oro architectural style.

Those who stay at a hotel in Portici will have the possibility to enjoy Naples's fascination and delicate atmosphere, and to be pervaded with the traditional colours, flavours and tastes of Campania's regional capital. The local guest houses welcome guests with the utmost warmth and hospitality, and give them the possibility to enjoy clean spaces, excellent services and good cooking. In the evening, those who stay at Portici's charming farm houses will have the opportunity to have romantic candle-lit dinners in front of the enchanting Gulf of Naples.

Portici is scattered with plenty of sumptuous palaces and manor houses. The city's most representative buildings are Villa d’Elboeuf, which was built according to the canons of the so-called Miglio D’Oro architectural style, and Reggia di Portici, which was commissioned by Charles III in 1738 and is now the seat of the Faculty of Agriculture of Naples' Federico II University and its enchanting botanical garden. The Royal Chapel of the Reggia hosted a great performance by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Portici is the first railway city in Italy, since the first railway tract of the peninsula, Napoli-Portici, was commissioned here by Frederick II in 1839. A city of art and traditions, Portici was the native town of several illustrious artists, such as Mario Merola, an acclaimed scriptwriter from Naples.
The picturesque Granatello's sea port  gives tourists the possibility to go for long walks along the docks while enjoying Naples' magic atmosphere. The whole Neapolitan Riviera, which extends from Bacoli up to Sorrento, develops around Granatello. Portici is the ideal holiday destination for those interested in visiting some of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Italy.
