Poggio a Caiano is one of the smallest municipalities of Tuscany. It develops around the famous Villa Medicea, and nestles on the slopes of the fascinating area of Montalbano. Although being part of the province of Prato, Poggio a Caiano is situated a very short distance from Florence.

Bought by Lorenzo the Magnificent in 1480, the Villa was subsequently rebuilt according to the project by Giuliano da Sangallo, and now boasts an original architectural layout that is embellished by plenty of Classical elements.
Its interior is subdivided into several rooms, that are all furnished with elegance and style. They cherish precious frescoes by great artists, such as Alessandro Allori, Pontormo, Filippino Lippi and Andrea del Sarto. The outer structure of the villa is surrounded by a lush garden that is in turn encircled by impressive walls. One side of the wall system is occupied by the stables and the Nineteenth-century Park.
The top floor of the Villa is home to the important Still Life Museum,, that cherishes 184 masterpieces that were realized between the XVI and XVIII.century. In mid September, the city arranges the spectacular Assedio alla villa, that is livened up by amazing firework displays and historical recollections.
