Penne is a small municipality of the province of Pescara. Erected over the remains of the ancient city of Pinna (whose name was referred to its raised position), its territory is distributed into four hills and is part of Vestina Mountain Association. It is situated just in the heart of a strategic area, which develops 40 minutes far from the highest peaks of the region and a short distance from the compelling beaches of the Adriatic Coast. The Natural Reserve of Lake Penne is one of the most important entrance gates to the National Park of Gran Sasso.

Those interested in exploring the old town should start their visit from Porta S. Francesco, the main entrance gate to the city. Penne's most representative building is the Duomo, which was erected in 800 A. D. over the remains of an ancient Roman pagan temple, and was subsequently remodelled over the course of the following years. Apart from hosting the Duomo, the old town gathers plenty of further beautiful sacred buildings, such as the church of Annunziata, which is the point of departure of the historical procession of Good Friday, which has taken place here since  1570.
