Ospedaletti, a small municipality of the province of Imperia, is idyllically set just in the heart of a splendid cove of the Western Ligurian Riviera, that extends between Capo Nero and Capo Sant'Ampelio. Surrounded by a lush subtropical vegetation and a beguiling sea, it extends across the south-western part of the province, and is situated only six kilometres far from Sanremo, the famous “City of Flowers”.

The huge Sanctuary of Madonna delle Porrine rises on the top of a sweet hill of the old town, and is flanked by the course of the river Rio Porrine. Built around the half of the XVI century, it boasts a Greek-cross plan and a sumptuous Baroque facade. Not to be missed are the nineteenth-century Parish Church of St. Giovanni Battista, that contains a splendid reproduction of the famous “Madonna di Foligno” by Raphael realized by Tomaso Rossi, and the small church of St. Erasmo, that was built around 1300 and is now flanked by a huge cobblestone bell tower.
Tourists won't miss the opportunity to visit the nineteenth-century Villa Sultana, that is situated just in the heart of the city centre and 250 metres far from the sea. Surrounded by a lush 14.000-square-metre-large park, it was the seat of the first casino in Italy between 1911 and 1925.
Two ancient  Saracen towers dating back to the XVI century can still be seen in the city. One of them was an impressive watch-tower overlooking the gulf, while the other, that featured quadrangular plan, suited defensive purposes.
The city became famous all over the world between 1947 and 1972, since it was home to the Circui of Ospedaletti and hosted important car racing and motorcycling competitions.
