Ortonovo is a small municipality which is situated in the province of La Spezia. It is idyllically set in the heart of the western part of Liguria, and develops along the boundaries with Tuscany. To the west, the municipal territory is flanked by the Tyrrhenian Sea, while the city centre, which is situated about 6 kilometres far from the coast, nestles on the slopes of the Apuan Alps.

The city's ancient village is scattered with plenty of comfortable hotels. During the Roman Age, the territory of Ortonovo was part of the ancient colony of Luni; today, this small hamlet is comprised in Ortonovo's municipal area. Situated few kilometres far from the city centre, Luni, which hosts an impressive amphitheatre and the rich art collection of the National Archaeological Museum, is one of the most appreciated holiday destinations of the surrounding area.
Apart from Luni's archaeological site, not to be missed are the lovely hamlets of Nicola, San Matino e Annunziata, whose picturesque villages welcome visitors with the utmost warmth and hospitality.
Ortonovo's old town cherishes important cultural and artistic sites which date back to the Middle Ages and the previous ages. The Tower of Guinigi, the most representative example of the XV-century local architecture, bears witness to the previous existence of an impressive castle and is flanked by the beautiful church of St. Lorenzo. The Sanctuary of Mirteto, which is embellished by a sumptuous marble facade dating back to the XVI century, is situated a short distance from the city centre.
