Ortisei (German: St.Ulrich like the patron saint) is a thriving municipality situated in the province of Bolzano and the pivotal point of the vast Val Gardena.
Its territory is crossed by the course of the stream Gardena, while its highest point is situated at an altitude of 2.282 metres above sea level, on the slopes of Mount Rasciesa.
