Montelupo Fiorentino, a small municipality of the province of Florence, is idyllically set just in the heart of the Lower Valdarno, and develops across the area where the river Pesa merges into the Arno. Known since the Renaissance Period for its ceramic production, Montelupo was founded as a Florentine fortification to oppose Pistoia's castle of Capraia, that rises on the other bank of the river Arno.

Not to be missed is the city's Castle, that is dominated by a high tower and complemented by the medieval Priorate of St. Lorenzo, that was frescoed by Corso di Buono in 1284.
Montelupo Fiorentino's major attraction is the splendid Medici Villa of Ambrogiana, that rises in the area where the river Pesa merges into the Arno. It is open to the general public, and can be visited upon booking only. Another famous building worthy of mention is the Church of St. Ippolito, an ancient parish church whose asymmetrical facade was built in the XI century. Its interior cherishes a precious marble ciborium by Mino da Fiesole.
