Visiting Mogliano

Mogliano, a small municipality of the province of Macerata, develops on the top of a sweet hill which rises 313 metres above sea level. Idyllically set just in the heart of a privileged, strategic position, it is situated halfway between Mounts Sibillini and the Adriatic Coast. Mogliano is an important crafts centre, and gives tourists the possibility to buy curious items and original souvenirs.

The old town gathers welcoming guest houses and small and intimate bed and breakfasts, while the sweet surrounding hills are peppered with comfortable farm houses, which give tourists the possibility to spend pleasant holidays here based on the utmost rest and relax. The major communication routes which lead to Macerata are flanked by a wide range of comfortable hotels, which are the ideal accommodation facilities for both business travellers and those who stay in Mogliano for one night only.

Mogliano's impressive Medieval Fortress gives tourists the possibility to enjoy breathtaking views over the underlying landscape. Its imposing bulwarks and deconsecrated church offer sweeping views over the underlying green hills, the sumptuous former St. Michele Hospital and the so-called Autopalace, an ancient complex which was built according to the canons of the Art Nouveau style.
The city's old town is dominated by the monumental Palazzo Forti, which is Mogliano's most representative landmark and the seat of the local municipality. The tour across the palace, which has recently been totally restored, gives visitors the possibility to admire its vaults, the painted ceilings of the main floor, and the great halls of the third floor, which now host the historical library and archives.
The city centre is also embellished by a splendid Baroque building, the church of St. Nicolò di Bari, which was reconstructed twice over the course of the centuries. Not to be missed is the Convent of St.  Giuseppe, which was erected in 1630 by the Benedictine Nuns of Cassino, who still live there. The convent is flanked by the sumptuous Rococo church of St. Giorgio and Benedetto, which is embellished by painted doors and windows and a splendid coffered ceiling.
