Situated in the province of Bergamo, Lovere is idyllically set just in the heart of Val Camonica, one of the largest valleys in Lombardy. Its old town overlooks the northern shores of Lake Iseo and is situated only 40 kilometres far from the provincial capital.

Both Bergamo's and Milan's Civic Museums cherish some precious finds dating back to the Roman Age, while the importance the city achieved during the Middle Ages is evidenced by the impressive tower houses which still punctuate the surrounding area. The central Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II is dominated by Alghisi Tower, the Civic Tower and the splendid Palazzo del Podestà.
Among Lovere's most ancient sacred buildings are the church of St. Giorgio, which was erected before the XIII century and subsequently remodelled over the course of the centuries, and the IX-century Oratory of St. Martino. Worthy of note is also the Sanctuary of St. Giovanni, which is idyllically set on the top of Mount Cala and makes the ideal base for undertaking fascinating natural excursions along the scenic route which leads to the natural lookout point overlooking Lake Iseo.
In Val Vendra, along the banks of the homonymous stream, are the Gothic-Renaissance Basilica of St. Maria in Valvendra, whose interior cherishes precious works of art, and Palazzo Bazzini, a sumptuous stately home which was realized in 1600.
The tour across the city's major cultural and artistic beauties then leads to the Tadini Academy. This Neoclassical building overlooking piazza Garibaldi contains one of the most appreciated art collections of the region, which gathers precious artworks by Canova, Bellini, Tiepolo and Hayez.
