Leverano, a small municipality of the province of Lecce, is situated in the north-western edge of the Salentine Peninsula which overlooks the Ionian Sea. It is situated 17 kilometres far from the provincial capital, just in the heart of the flat territory of the so-called Terra d’Arneo.

Leverano's Chiesa Matrice, which is dedicated to Santissima Annunziata, is the most representative example of the passage from Renaissance to Baroque art. It has a sober facade featuring two orders and a Durazzesco-Catalan spire, and its interior hosts a splendid choir and some precious fifteenth-century paintings.
The ancient village develops around the imposing Torre Federiciana, which was commissioned by Frederick II of Swabia in 1220. This impressive monument, which is characterized by a 28-metre-high merloned four-sided podium, once suited defensive purposes, since it protected the city against Saracen attacks.
Leverano makes the ideal base for undertaking nice excursions across the local culture and traditions: among the most popular tourist destinations are the Farms of Terra d’Arneo, which still retain impressive towers and moats. Not to be missed are Torre dei Dannati fortified farm  (XVI century) and Albaro Farm, the latter being flanked by the small church of St. Maria di Albaro (XVI-XVII century).
