The small municipality of Legnano, which is situated 20 kilometres north west of the regional capital, nestles on the southern slopes of Varese's Prealps. Its territory is occupied by the river Olona, which crosses the whole homonymous valley.

Legnano's most representative church is the Roman Basilica of St. Magno, which was built in the XVI century. Its interior cherishes the famous altar by Bernardino Luini, which is said to have been designed by Bramante.
The Church of St. Ambrogio, which is the city's oldest sacred building, is said to date back to the XIV century. Not to be missed are the Church of St. Bernardino da Siena, which was consecrated in the XVII century, and the Romanesque Church of St. Domenico.
One of Legnano's most representative historical buildings is the Monastey of St. Angelo, which played a fundamental role in the cultural and religious development of the whole town. 
The impressive Castle of Legnano, which is also known as Castle of St. Giorgio, was built over the remains of a pre-existing Monastery of the Augustinian Canons, and dominates the whole town from the top of one of the islands of the river Olona. This impressive fortification is provided with a quadrangular bulwark and six imposing cylindrical towers, which were built to protect the structure.
Tourists won't miss the opportunity to visit the city's Civic Museumo, which is named after the famous researcher Guido Sutermeinster, who gathered the precious archaeological finds which are now part of the museum's prestigious collection.
