Visiting Lamporecchio
Lamporecchio is a small municipality situated in the province of Pistoia. Idyllically set just in the heart of the ancient Via Maremmana, which once connected the city centre with Pistoia, it is surrounded by Fucecchio's Marshland and Montalbano's hills, which make it the ideal holiday destination for the lovers of nature and open-air holidays.
Lamporecchio's modern centre gathers a remarkably wide array of different accommodation options. The comfortable hotels of the old town and charming guesthouses belonging to any category give guests the possibility to spend pleasant holidays here while enjoying utmost relax. Lamporecchio's hilly landscapes are also dotted with intimate holiday farms and small bed and breakfasts.
Lamporecchio is a lively centre gathering outstanding monuments and artworks. The city's most representative sacred building is the Parish Church of St. Stefano, which dates back to the Middle Ages and was subsequently remodelled. Anyway, it still retains important artworks and is flanked by its original bell tower. Tourists are mostly attracted by the lush landscapes which surround Lamporecchio, which is wholly encircled by the gentle Montalbano's hills, which are carpeted with ancient olive groves, high cypresses and fertile vineyards.
Lamporecchio makes the ideal base for visiting the picturesque hamlets and villages which are mostly distributed across the surrounding hills. Orbigiano is situated few kilometres far from the city centre: it is home to the impressive church of St. Maria Assunta, whose interior cherishes the fourteenth-century wooden statue of “Madonna del Pruno” and several frescoes which date back to the XIII century. Not to be missed is the XII-century church of St. Giorgio, which rises in the lovely hamlet of Porciano. Further down is San Baronto, which is situated 7 kilometrs far from Lamporecchio's city centre. San Baronto develops around the XI-century church dedicated to the city's patron saint. The crypt belongs to the original building, while the walls were frescoed in the XV century. Apart from this church, the most important attraction in Lamporecchio is its breathtaking natural landscape, which offers sweeping views of the underlying plain.
