Guidonia Montecelio, a small municipality of the province of Rome, is situated a short distance from Tivoli, the latter being easily accessible through the nearby Autostrada del Sole. Guidonia was founded between 1935 and 1937 as a research and aerospace engineering centre. It is now home to the prestigious Aviation High School.

Guidonia is situated a short distance from the major tourist centres of the surrounding area. Montecelio and Sant'Angelo Romano are two beautiful medieval fortified villages that rise few kilometres far from the city centre and are totally surrounded by the green hills of Mounts Cornicolani. Sant’Angelo gathers some outstanding monuments of great value, such as Rocca Borghese. Not to be missed is the nearby resort of Bagni Àlbule, whose precious spa establishments have been exploited since the Roman Age. Other spas worthy of mention are Bagni di Tivoli.
