The same square also hosts the fourteenth-century Palazzo dei Consoli, the current seat of the Civic Museum and the Municipal Picture Gallery, which cherishes the famous Iguvine Tablets, a series of seven bronze tablets written in the Umbrian language using both Etruscan and Latin characters which are one of the most important finds dating back to this population.
The lovers of history won't miss the opportunity to visit the Roman Theatre, which is still the venue for important shows and representations, as well as the nearby Roman Mausoleum and Antiquarium. Mount Igino is topped by the beautiful Basilica of St. Ubaldo, which is named after the city's patron saint, and the adjoining Franciscan cloister. Gubbio stages plenty of amazing shows and events all the year round, such as the popular  Festival of Ceri in mid May, during which the three big “ceri”, imposing wood statues dedicated to Saint Ubaldo, Saint Giorgio and Saint Antonio, are carried on the shoulders of believers. Not to be missed is the Palio of Balestra, which takes place at the end of May, an amazing medieval recollection of a XII-century armed competition.
